More crap on the way!!!

Just ordered the PCB’s and the parts for the power supplies… I figured I start there, get them built and hand them off do Dan Zellman to calibrate while I work on the mics.

Dan Zellman, if you don’t know, is the resident tech at Sear Sound here in NYC and one hell of a knowledgeable guy.  Also one of the nicest guys I can think of.  Must be because he sits next to the tape machine that Sgt. Pepper’s was mastered on… he let me touch it.

Just a shell of a pair of u67’s

Well, the power supply cases are here as are the mic bodies.  And… bonus… some pretty well constructed shock-mounts!!! (Upon inspection, it was clear that these came with the bodies, but I didn’t catch that at first, so its still a pleasant surprise to me!!!).

Just ordered the BOM for the power supplies from Mouser!!!! Ohboyohboyohboyohboyohboy!!!!

Change of plans…

I’m ditching my dreams of the Coles 4050 Stereo ribbon mic and am going to build two Lola Mic Pres from Hairball Audio and a pair of u87 clones (sourced from a few places).

I’ll still get the Coles someday, but right now, a reliable pair of u87’s will go futher in the shop.  Plus at under a grand… c’mon.  And I get to build them.

Power…

Better power conditioning on its way to The Whelping Box.  Badly needed I might ad…  power around hear is DIRTY!  I never noticed until I got the room treated. Now I feel like all I hear is the noise.

Time Or Dirt?

Years ago when I was in Jenifer Convertible, our guitar player Jim Santo would periodically get musicians together at the old Dubway Studios with Al Houghton at the helm.  The premise was that we would learn, record and mix two songs in an evening.  They were awesome evenings.  Jim would then release them on his label Dive Records as a 7″ 45rpm phonograph record.   A 7″ 45rpm phonograph record was a circular disc of vinyl with groves that a needle would ride in while the whole thing spun around and… well… *sigh*

The sessions have not happened in a long time, but the results are available on bandcamp as a download and as limited 7″ 45rpm phonograph records!!!  I am proud to have played a part.
